Biography
1977 -1987- Served a technical apprenticeships with Lancashire country council as a radio technician providing technical support for the emergency services working on communications and support systems
1987 - 1992 - Worked as an audio visual senior engineer with a regional company specialising on conference and multimedia events.
1992 – 1997 - Senior technician for Preston Colleges supporting the Electrical, Electronics and Engineering departments. During this time studied part time for a Degree in at UCLan in Electronics and Computing, graduated 1996 with first class honours
1997 – 2006 - Principal technician in the Engineering and Product Design departmental at UCLan, worked my way up to Principal Technical Officer for the Faculty of Design and Technology.
2006 – date - Networks and Telecoms manager for UCLans Learning and Information Service, responsible for providing and supporting networking infrastructure and associated network systems and services for the university locally, regionally and internationally.
Abstract
The challenges of delivering IT infrastructure and services for a new International Campus
In October 2012 UCLan opened its doors to its first international campus in Cyprus, on time and in budget. Taking aside the obvious language and cultural differences, there were a number of challenges and hurdles to overcome as one would expect. What I hope to do in this presentation is share with you the highs, the lows, what went well and what we would do different next time.
